Competing in Baja tournaments, which are defined as rally-type off-road races in which 4x4 and 6x6 off-road vehicles and special racing vehicles developed for desert races are held in separate classifications, together and in off-road stages, Becce explained his work and goals to an AA correspondent.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Mehmet Becce, who won seven Turkish championships in off-road tournaments, Mert Becce said he has been pursuing his career since the day he got his license.
Becce, who has been racing for nearly 12 years, said, "After I got my license, we started this business with my father's encouragement. We started from scratch and worked our way up the ladder step by step. First, we started winning local races, and then we won the Turkish championship. We repeated the Turkish championship and showed that this wasn't a fluke."
"The stages are great, I loved them."
Becce noted that he also competed in international races and is a two-time Eastern European Baja champion.
Becce expressed his satisfaction with the stages of the championship in Bursa, where he participated in his new Yamaha YXZ, and said:
"We started the European Championship this year with a new car. The season hasn't been perfect for us, but we have a chance to win the European championship. We're in competition with our Spanish and Italian rivals. We actually came here for testing, to support the championship, to be seen here, and to test our new car. But the goal in every race we compete in is always to win, so we want to be first here too. Right now, we're looking at third place on the first day; a new car is a new experience for us. The stages are great, I loved them. Even though we didn't perform to our liking, we're happy with the result."
